Onimusha Warlords Dark Realm Guide: All 20 Floors Strategy

Updated: 2026-08-134 sections

The Dark Realm is an optional 20-floor dungeon accessible from the Phantom Realm entrance in the demon world area. Before entering, thorough preparation is essential. Weapon upgrades are critical: at minimum, have one elemental sword upgraded to level 3 (90 Red Souls invested). The Raizan is recommended for its fast attack speed and consistent damage.

Bring at least 15 Medicines and 10 Herbs. The Dark Realm has no shops, so you cannot restock once inside. Also carry a Talisman for emergency revival. The Dragon Orb, which increases your magic gauge capacity, is highly recommended; obtain it by trading 50 Red Souls at the phantom fountain before entering.

The Dark Realm takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete. Ensure you have uninterrupted time, as there are no save points within the dungeon. If you die, you restart from floor 1. Some players recommend practicing boss patterns in the main game before attempting the Dark Realm, as the enhanced bosses here have higher health and new attacks.

  • Weapon: at least one sword at level 3
  • Items: 15+ Medicines, 10+ Herbs, 1 Talisman
  • Dragon Orb: increased magic gauge capacity
  • Time needed: 2-3 hours uninterrupted

Floors 1-10: Early Dark Realm Strategy

Floors 1 through 5 feature standard demon soldiers and minor demons in small groups. These floors serve as a warmup; use them to build your soul combo meter and absorb souls for magic. Use light attacks to conserve weapon durability and save magic for later floors. The Isshin counter is effective here for bonus damage without spending resources.

Floors 6 through 10 introduce enhanced enemies with higher health and new attack patterns. Floor 5 ends with a mini-boss, an enhanced version of a regular demon with approximately 3x health. Use a magic attack to break its guard, then follow with charged strikes. Floor 10 ends with the first major boss: an enhanced Osric with faster charge attacks and a new ground-pound shockwave.

For the enhanced Osric, dodge his charge by rolling sideways, then hit him 3-4 times during his recovery. His ground-pound creates a shockwave you must jump over. Use one Medicine if your health drops below 50%. Save at least 12 Medicines for floors 11-20. After defeating the floor 10 boss, you cannot exit and re-enter without restarting from floor 1.

Floors 11-20: Late Dark Realm and Final Boss

Floors 11 through 15 introduce the toughest regular enemies in the game, including enhanced versions of Velaguerus and Guildenstern's minions. These floors test your resource management; use Herbs for minor healing and save Medicines for bosses. Floor 15 ends with an enhanced Hecuba who has approximately 50% more health than the main game version and gains an additional acid spray attack.

Floors 16 through 19 feature the most dangerous enemy configurations, with multiple enhanced demons appearing simultaneously. Use area-of-effect magic attacks from the Enryuu to manage crowds. Floor 19 ends with an enhanced Guildenstern who teleports more frequently and summons tougher minions. Focus on destroying minions for soul orbs, then rush Guildenstern during his energy ball charge.

Floor 20 is the final floor, ending with an enhanced Marcellus. This version has teleport attacks, a wider combo range, and approximately double the health of the main game version. Use the Shippuu to break his guard, then unleash your strongest magic combo. After defeating him, a chest appears containing the Bishamon Sword, the ultimate weapon in the game.

Bishamon Sword and Post-Dark Realm Strategy

After clearing floor 20 and defeating enhanced Marcellus, a chest appears in the arena. Open it to obtain the Bishamon Sword, the most powerful weapon in Onimusha: Warlords. The Bishamon Sword has the highest base damage, fast attack speed, and a screen-wide magic attack that damages all enemies on screen.

The Bishamon Sword cannot be upgraded further, as it comes at maximum level. It replaces all other weapons in effectiveness, making the remaining game content significantly easier. For the final Fortinbras fight, equip the Bishamon Sword and use its magic attack during each phase's vulnerability window to deal massive damage.

After obtaining the Bishamon Sword, you exit the Dark Realm and return to the demon world area. Use the remaining healing items from your Dark Realm run for the final boss sequence. The Bishamon Sword also carries over to New Game+, making hard mode and speed runs much more manageable. The Dark Realm Conqueror honor is awarded automatically upon clearing floor 20.
