Description
Enryuu — subtitled Flame Blade — is a fire-element katana in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Per pre-release coverage, Enryuu carries a fixed fire element and inflicts a burn status effect on each successful hit, dealing damage over time in addition to the strike's direct damage. The burn enables sustained pressure: even a single combo opener applies the DoT, which ticks for several seconds afterward.
Enryuu's matchup profile is its defining feature. Plant-type Genma are weak to fire, making Enryuu the dedicated answer for those encounters. Outside of those matchups, the burn still applies generically — it's not a niche tool, it's a generalist katana with a particularly strong specialized matchup.
Enryuu's fire element, burn effect, and matchup profile against plant-type Genma are drawn from official previews. Specific base damage, burn tick rate, obtain method, and the full upgrade table will be confirmed at launch.
Element & Status Effect
The burn status effect from Enryuu has several mechanical properties expected to include:
- Damage over time — the burn ticks for a fixed duration after each successful hit, adding damage beyond the strike itself.
- Stacking potential — multiple hits in quick succession may refresh or stack the burn, increasing total damage.
- Plant-type bonus — plant-type Genma likely take amplified burn damage, making Enryuu the dedicated counter.
Burn Mechanics — To be verified at launch
Tick rate, total burn duration, stack behavior, and exact bonus vs plant-type Genma will be confirmed at launch.
Moveset
The complete Enryuu moveset — per-stance combos, stance-switch transitions, and any unlockable techniques — will be documented here.
Moveset — To be verified at launch
Per-stance combo list, inputs, frame data, and unlockable techniques will be filled in here after we test the full release.
Upgrade Costs
Enryuu is expected to share the standard katana upgrade path used by all element-specific blades. Per-tier soul and material costs will be listed here, cross-referenced with the Soul System guide.
Upgrade Costs — To be verified at launch
Per-tier soul and material costs, stat gains, and the full upgrade tree will be documented here at launch.
Way of the Sword's elemental matchup system rewards bringing the right tool for the right encounter. Enryuu's fire element makes it a must-swap against plant-type Genma — if you hit a plant encounter and you're still running a neutral katana, you'll feel the difference. Pair Enryuu with the Issen Mastery skill node to capitalize on the burn damage with consistent counter-attacks.
