1. Boss Overview
Burai is a Genma demon whose entire combat identity revolves around lightning. He channels electrical projectiles, calls down ground AoE storms, and dashes across the arena with crackling trails. He is agile, mid-range, and rewards players who learn to either deflect his bolts or get out of their arc.
He appears solo in his main story encounter and later fights alongside the wind demon Ifuu in a duo variant. Both encounters teach the same lesson: lightning is fast but punishable — every cast has a recovery window.
2. Attack Patterns
| Attack | Tell | Best Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning Bolt Volley | Hands raised, sparks gather | Deflect each bolt back (stamina damage); or side-step laterally |
| Ground AoE Lightning | Staff/sword drives into ground, crackle radiates | Jump clear, or sprint out of the AoE circle |
| Lightning Dash | Body lowers, leaves a crackling trail | Side-step lateral at the moment of dash; punish the recovery |
| Chain Lightning Cast | Three bolts in quick succession | Deflect 1st and 3rd, side-step 2nd |
| Storm Summon (HP < 50%) | Arena-wide lightning field for ~6 seconds | Hide behind cover if available; otherwise chain Focus Evades |
3. Strategy
- Deflect lightning projectiles back at him. The mechanic is identical to the Nue tail-orb deflection — a successful parry sends the bolt back, dealing bonus stamina damage.
- Ground AoE lightning: jump or run away. The AoE has a clear telegraph and a wide blast radius. Vertical or lateral clearance both work; vertical is safer in narrow arenas.
- Punish recovery windows with Issen. Every lightning cast leaves Burai staggered for ~20 frames. This is your Issen window — chain Issen if you have multiple openings.
- Do not button mash parries. Lightning is fast but rhythmic — read the cadence. Mashing will get you hit by Chain Lightning's second bolt.
- Focus Evade is your anti-Storm tool. When he hits 50% HP and calls down the arena-wide lightning field, chain Focus Evades to survive until the field expires.
4. Recommended Build
- Tier 2 Parry Window+ — Burai's lightning bolts reward generous parry windows
- Issen Mastery Tier 1+ — for clean counter execution during recovery windows
- Heavy Restorative consumables — emergency heal before the Storm Summon phase

5. Rewards
Defeating Burai grants:
- 1200 yellow souls
- Lightning Charm — +8% attack damage, +5% damage vs air enemies
- Trophy: Crashing Lightning (Bronze)
