Description

Shiden — subtitled Wind Cutter — is a wind-element katana in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The defining feature of Shiden is its hitbox: each swing projects a wind-blade that extends well beyond the physical reach of the blade itself, and certain moves are full area-of-effect slashes that hit multiple targets in an arc.

The extended reach transforms how the katana handles encounters. Standard katana swings demand you close distance and time your hits carefully; Shiden's wind-blades let you strike from positions where a normal blade would whiff. The AoE slashes make Shiden a crowd control weapon — when surrounded by a swarm of standard Genma, a single Shiden combo can clear multiple enemies at once.

⚠️ Pre-Release Source

Shiden's wind element, extended reach, and AoE profile are drawn from official previews. Specific reach values, AoE angle, obtain method, and the full upgrade table will be confirmed at launch.

Combat Profile

Compared to a standard katana like Onimaru, Shiden plays differently in three concrete ways:

AspectStandard KatanaShiden
ReachPhysical blade lengthWind-blade extends well beyond the blade
Hit PatternSingle-targetArc-based AoE on certain moves
Best MatchupSingle-target duelsCrowd encounters, fast-moving enemies

The wind-blade reach also changes how you play defensively. A parried enemy that retreats out of normal katana range is still inside Shiden's wind-blade range, letting you punish the recovery with a heavy swing that lands from a distance.

Moveset

The complete Shiden moveset — per-stance combos, wind-blade projection, and AoE-specific inputs — will be documented here.

Moveset — To be verified at launch

Per-stance combo list, AoE-specific inputs, wind-blade projection rules, and unlockable techniques will be filled in here at launch.

Upgrade Costs

Shiden is expected to share the standard katana upgrade path. Per-tier soul and material costs will be listed here, cross-referenced with the Soul System guide.

 The Crowd Control Answer

If you find yourself overwhelmed by Genma swarms — particularly in narrow corridors or ambush arenas — Shiden's AoE slashes are the cleanest answer. Pair it with the soul economy fundamentals and you'll have a dedicated crowd-clear weapon that doesn't sacrifice the standard parry-and-Issen loop.
