Chapter 11 ("What Lurks in the Shadows") is a 2.5 – 3 hours segment of the 22-mission main story of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The structure, enemy compositions, and item placements below are based on the verified first-week launch state. Use the walkthrough checklist to track every encounter, item, and missable. Recommended for players clearing the chapter for the first time on Difficulty Mode II — the chapter scales to whatever level you enter.

- Defeat the Earth-Shakers sub-boss in the deepest vault
- Retrieve the corrupt Genma genome sample
3. Walkthrough
Sections In This Chapter
Section 1 — Dock Approach
Travel to the docks and enter the warehouse district. The first area is a stealth-investigative crawl through stacked crates to find the laboratory entrance.
You'll meet two Foremen from the Chapter 10 smuggling ring, now desperate. They hand over a Hanbei lockpick set (required to open the laboratory hatch) and a side-quest token for the Chapter 18 Samurai Remnant side-mission.
Section 2 — Flooded Corridor 1
The first flooded corridor is waist-deep water. Movement is slowed; ranged Genma Specimen enemies pelt from elevated platforms.
Deflect each specimen vial back at the thrower. The vials shatter in a poison cloud — useful for clearing groups but harmful to you, so deflect-not-absorb.
Section 3 — Tide-Gate Puzzle
The central atrium has a tide-gate mechanism with three water-pressure valves. You must drain the water in the correct order (middle, left, right) within 20 seconds.
If you fail the puzzle, the door doesn't open but the timer resets. There's no penalty for retry. The Water-Resistant Chest behind the gate is a guaranteed Wet-Stone talisman drop.
Section 4 — Flooded Corridor 2 + Specimen Vault
Corridor 2 introduces the Genma Specimen Brute — larger, harder-hitting variants of the standard Brute with poison damage.
Specimen Brutes do not flinch from light attacks. Use heavy Mountain Breaker (combo 3) to stagger them. The right wall has a Hozuki pouch token #7 hidden behind a sample-rack.
Section 5 — Earth-Shakers Sub-Boss
The Earth-Shakers is a massive earth elemental built from the corrupted soil itself. It guards the deepest vault.
Phase 1 (HP 100–70%): ground pound AoE and rolling boulder charge. Phase 2 (HP 70–30%): the Earth-Shakers splits into two halves and you must fight them simultaneously. Phase 3 (HP 30–0%): a single massive stone-fist — break the fist with chained Issens to expose the core.
Defeating the Earth-Shakers unlocks the Earth-Shakers Soul Core — a defensive stone-wall ability usable once per checkpoint (perfect for the Chapter 13 bridge gauntlet).
Section 6 — Genome Vault
After the sub-boss, retrieve the corrupt Genma genome sample from the vault. A short lore cutscene explains the sample's role in the larger Dokyo plotline.
The chapter ends with a cutscene. The genome sample is automatically stored and will be referenced in Chapter 14 ("Shadows Fall").
4. Key Items & Collectibles
| Item | Location | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Wet-Stone talisman | Tide-gate chest | +12% deflect vs heavy attacks |
| Earth-Shakers Soul Core | Sub-boss drop | Stone-wall defensive ability |
| Hozuki Pouch token #7 | Corridor 2 sample rack | +1 pouch slot |
| Sun-Dried Hozuki x6 | Foreman side-reward | Crafting material |
| Skill Seal — Stealth Tier-2 | After stealth approach | Crouch longer, distraction tools last longer |
| Headliner.nl note | Tide-gate wall scratch | Lore: "We tried to warn them" - lab tech confession |
5. Missables
- Wet-Stone talisman — the tide-gate puzzle must be completed within 20 seconds. Failure is recoverable, but if you run past without solving the talisman is forever gone.
- Hozuki Pouch token #7 — the sample rack in Corridor 2 is partially submerged; if you walk on the right wall without inspecting it you miss the token.
- Headliner.nl lore note — scratched into the tide-gate wall by the previous researcher. Optional read but part of the documented lore set.
- Side-quest token for Chapter 18 Samurai Remnant — the two Foremen hand this over only on the Chapter 11 first visit. Skip them and you lose the side-quest entirely.
